Compton's air quality reflects the Los Angeles basin's enclosed topography in south Los Angeles County, with vehicle emissions from I-710, SR-91, and surrounding industrial and logistics operations generating elevated diesel PM2.5 from freight traffic in one of Southern California's more industrialised suburban corridors. The basin inversion traps all local emission sources, while Compton's industrial port proximity consistently produces elevated readings throughout the year.
