Taipei's air quality reflects the Taipei Basin's partial topographic enclosure between the Datun and Zhongyang mountain ranges, with vehicle traffic on the surrounding expressways and the extraordinary electronic manufacturing, technology, and commercial corridor generating elevated NOₓ. Consistent Taiwan Strait breezes provide maritime ventilation on most days, while the basin's topographic enclosure creates concentration under calm winter conditions and transboundary Chinese industrial pollution on northwesterly winds contributes regional background throughout the year.
