Ţurayf's air quality reflects the flat northwestern Saudi Arabian Al Hudud ash Shamaliyah plateau at 854 metres adjacent to the Jordan border, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the Trans-Arabian Pipeline (Tapline) legacy, military, and agricultural corridor contributing local sources. Windblown Nafud Desert dust generates elevated PM10 during shamal wind events, while the flat desert plateau allows reasonable dispersal on most days and Turaif generally maintains moderate to elevated northwestern Saudi Arabian border plateau readings throughout most of the year.
