Jāzān's air quality reflects the flat Saudi Arabian Red Sea coastal position in the Jizan Region adjacent to Yemen, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the SABIC Jizan Economic City petrochemical corridor and fishing port generating elevated industrial emissions. Consistent Red Sea northerly winds provide maritime ventilation, while the conflict in neighbouring Yemen contributes regional smoke on southerly winds and the petrochemical complex's industrial scale represents Jizan's most distinctive local air quality contribution throughout most of the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is air quality bad in Jāzān right now?

On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Jāzān is fair. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 30.3/100. Pollution peaks around 12:00 PM (O3: 30.3/100).

When is air pollution at its worst in Jāzān?

The biggest local contributors to pollution in Jāzān are traffic emissions, heavy industrial and chemical processing, and fishing fleet activity, particularly once dry spells bring strong winds. Strong seasonal winds can lift dust from the surrounding dry terrain and push particulate levels sharply higher. Onshore breezes usually help clear the air, but pollution can build up when winds are light.

Are air quality levels in Jāzān based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
