Ḩafr al Bāţin's air quality reflects the flat Saudi Arabian northeastern steppe plain at 350 metres near the Kuwait border, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the military, agricultural, and oil corridor contributing local sources. Windblown Arabian Desert and Iraqi steppe dust generates elevated PM10 during shamal wind events, while the flat desert plain allows reasonable dispersal on most days and Hafr al-Batin generally maintains moderate to elevated northeastern Saudi Arabian steppe city readings throughout most of the year.
