Brăila's air quality reflects its position on the flat Wallachian plain at the Danube bend in southeastern Romania, with vehicle traffic on the E87 and the surrounding port and light industrial operations at the Brăila Danube port contributing local sources. The flat Romanian plain generally provides reasonable wind dispersal on most days, while winter residential wood and coal burning generates seasonal PM2.5 elevation and the Danube river corridor provides limited ventilation on prevailing northwesterly and southeasterly wind days.
