Madīnat ash Shamāl's air quality reflects the flat Qatar Peninsula's northernmost Al Shamal position on the Qatar-Bahrain maritime border, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the fishing, government, and services corridor contributing very modest local sources. The Qatar Peninsula's northern position provides somewhat better Arabian Gulf maritime ventilation than the southern areas, while windblown Arabian Desert dust generates elevated PM10 during shamal events and Al Shamal generally maintains moderate Qatari northern coastal readings throughout most of the year.
