Bielsko-Biała's air quality reflects its position in the Biała and Wapienica river valleys at the foothills of the Silesian Beskids, with residential coal and wood burning generating elevated PM2.5 alongside vehicle traffic on the A1 motorway. The Carpathian foothills create significant topographic enclosure compared to the flat Silesian plain to the north, concentrating heating and vehicle emissions under winter inversions.
