Itauguá's air quality reflects the greater Asunción metropolitan industrial ring in Paraguay, with vehicle traffic on the Ruta 1 and the surrounding industrial corridor — Itauguá being one of greater Asunción's more industrialised municipalities — contributing elevated NOₓ and industrial PM2.5. The flat Paraguayan terrain provides reasonable dispersal, while dry season burning from surrounding agricultural land contributes seasonal PM2.5 variation throughout the year.
