Prilep's air quality reflects the Pelagonia plain in the Prilepsko Pole basin in central North Macedonia, with vehicle traffic on the M5 national road and surrounding tobacco processing and manufacturing contributing local sources. Winter residential coal and wood burning generates elevated PM2.5, while the surrounding Jakupica and Selečka mountains create partial topographic enclosure that concentrates heating and vehicle emissions under winter inversions throughout the heating season.
