Abuja's air quality reflects the flat Nigerian plateau at 840 metres surrounded by the Aso Rock granite inselberg, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the government construction, vehicle density, and services corridor generating local PM2.5. The elevated plateau position aids dispersal on most days, while dry season Harmattan dust from the Sahara elevates PM10 and Abuja generally maintains among Nigeria's more moderately ventilated planned capital city environments compared to Lagos and Kano throughout most of the year.
