Marrakech's air quality reflects the flat Moroccan Haouz Plain at 466 metres at the High Atlas Mountain base, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the tourism, vehicle density, and tannery corridor contributing elevated PM2.5 and distinctive tanning chemical emissions. Windblown Saharan dust during sirocco events delivers elevated PM10, while the High Atlas Mountain backdrop creates topographic variation and Marrakech generally maintains moderate North African tourist city readings with distinctive tannery and sirocco character throughout most of the year.
