Taxco de Alarcón's air quality reflects the Guerrero Sierra Madre del Sur's deeply enclosed Atepec River gorge at 1,660 metres surrounded by the dramatic colonial silver mining hillsides, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the silver jewelry manufacturing, tourism, and services corridor contributing elevated silver processing emissions alongside primary vehicle sources. The gorge's near-complete topographic enclosure creates severe concentration under inversions, while the silver jewelry industry's distinctive metal aerosols represent Taxco's most locally unique air quality contribution.
