Sabinas's air quality reflects the flat Coahuila northeastern coal mining corridor at 280 metres adjacent to the historic Sabinas coal basin, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the coal mining, services, and agricultural corridor contributing local sources. The coal mining operations' distinctive coal dust PM10 represents the most locally notable emission source, while the flat semi-arid terrain allows reasonable dispersal and Sabinas generally maintains moderate northern Mexican coal corridor readings throughout most of the year.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is air quality bad in Sabinas right now?
On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Sabinas is fair. O3 is the main pollutant at 31.5/100. Pollution peaks around 5:00 AM (PM10: 55.2/100).
Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Sabinas?
On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Sabinas will be similar to today, with PM2.5 forecast at fair at 33.8/100. Pollution peaks around 11:00 PM (PM10: 43.4/100).
When is air pollution at its worst in Sabinas?
Sabinas usually sees its poorest air quality when traffic on the surrounding roads, mining operations, and agricultural burning coincide with periods when windblown dust events occur. These wind events can carry dust in from the surrounding arid landscape. Coal and wood used for winter heating add substantially to particulate levels.
Are air quality levels in Sabinas based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
