Perote's air quality reflects the Veracruz Sierra Madre Oriental's Perote Valley at 2,387 metres, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the military base, agricultural, and services corridor contributing local sources. The surrounding Cofre de Perote and Orizaba volcanic peaks create significant topographic variation, while the elevated plateau position aids dispersal and Perote generally maintains good to moderate Mexican eastern highland valley readings throughout most of the year.
