Nuevo Laredo's air quality reflects the flat Tamaulipas Rio Grande border position adjacent to Laredo Texas, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the maquiladora manufacturing and extraordinary international bridge freight corridor generating elevated diesel PM2.5 and NOₓ. The Gulf of Mexico breezes provide warm-season ventilation, while the flat Gulf coastal terrain allows reasonable dispersal and the extraordinary international freight bridge crossing represents the most distinctive local emission source throughout most of the year.

Are air quality levels in Nuevo Laredo based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
