Ixtlahuaca's air quality reflects Mexico City's northwestern metropolitan corridor in the Toluca Valley at 2,570 metres adjacent to the Valley of Mexico, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the agricultural, textile, and light manufacturing corridor contributing local sources. The valley's topographic enclosure creates concentration under inversions, while the elevated altitude worsens ozone formation and Ixtlahuaca generally maintains moderate to elevated Mexican highland valley corridor readings throughout most of the year.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is air quality bad in Ixtlahuaca right now?
On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Ixtlahuaca is poor. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 61.0/100. Pollution peaks around 5:00 AM (PM10: 61.0/100).
Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Ixtlahuaca?
On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Ixtlahuaca will be similar to today, with AQI forecast at poor at 65.8/100. Pollution peaks around 4:00 AM (PM10: 65.8/100).
When is air pollution at its worst in Ixtlahuaca?
The biggest local contributors to pollution in Ixtlahuaca are traffic on the surrounding roads, light manufacturing, along with agricultural activity, particularly once calm, stagnant conditions settle in the surrounding valley. The surrounding valley terrain holds pollutants near the surface rather than letting them disperse. Photochemical reactions in the heat push ozone levels higher.
Are air quality levels in Ixtlahuaca based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
