Agua Prieta's air quality reflects the flat Sonoran Desert Arizona-Sonora border position adjacent to Douglas Arizona, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the maquiladora manufacturing and border crossing corridor generating elevated vehicle and industrial emissions. Windblown Sonoran Desert dust contributes elevated PM10, while the flat desert terrain allows reasonable dispersal and Agua Prieta generally maintains moderate to good northwestern Mexican Sonoran Desert border city readings throughout most of the year.
