Kuala Lumpur's air quality reflects the flat Klang Valley's partial topographic enclosure between the Titiwangsa and Bintang ranges, with vehicle traffic on the PLUS Expressway and surrounding manufacturing and construction contributing local sources. The equatorial monsoon provides seasonal cleansing, while transboundary smoke from Indonesian and Sumatran peatland fires generates among Southeast Asia's most severe regional PM2.5 episodes during the dry season haze and represents the most significant and dramatic seasonal air quality challenge throughout the year.
