Klang's air quality reflects the Selangor Klang River delta's flat coastal industrial position adjacent to Port Klang — Malaysia's largest port — with vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways and the port, manufacturing, and logistics corridor contributing elevated NOₓ and maritime PM2.5. The Malacca Strait provides maritime ventilation, while transboundary haze from Indonesian peatland fires is the primary severe seasonal concern and the extraordinary port volume makes Klang the Klang Valley's most distinctively maritime-industrial environment throughout most of the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is air quality bad in Klang right now?

On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Klang is poor. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 70.3/100. Pollution peaks around 2:00 PM (O3: 70.3/100).

Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Klang?

When is air pollution at its worst in Klang?

In Klang, traffic on the surrounding roads, light manufacturing, along with harbour and shipping traffic are the main local sources, with conditions worsening when dry, windy weather picks up. Strong seasonal winds can lift dust from the surrounding dry terrain and push particulate levels sharply higher. Onshore breezes usually help clear the air, but pollution can build up when winds are light.

Are air quality levels in Klang based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
