Ipoh's air quality reflects the Kinta River valley's dramatic limestone karst enclosure between the Titiwangsa and Keledang ranges in Perak, with vehicle traffic on the North-South Expressway and surrounding mining legacy, manufacturing, and residential character contributing local sources. The limestone karst valley creates distinctive topographic enclosure, while transboundary haze from Indonesian peatland fires is the primary severe seasonal concern and the karst valley's limited dispersal under calm conditions creates occasional concentration episodes throughout the year.
