Amman's air quality reflects the Jordanian Zarqa River valley's enclosed highland at 1,000 metres surrounded by the East Bank Plateau, with vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways and the extraordinary vehicle density and construction operations generating elevated PM2.5. Windblown Jordanian and Syrian Desert dust generates elevated PM10 during haboob events, while winter residential diesel and LPG heating contributes additional emissions and the plateau's partial enclosure maintains moderate to elevated Levant regional capital readings throughout the year.
