Tachikawa's air quality reflects the western Tokyo metropolitan Tama area position adjacent to Showa Memorial Park, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the US Air Force Yokota Air Base's military aviation operations and the manufacturing and commercial character contributing elevated NOₓ alongside primary vehicle sources. The flat Kanto Plain allows reasonable dispersal, while the military aviation operations represent the most distinctive local emission source throughout the year.

Day-to-day conditions here depend heavily on the weather. Conditions can otherwise vary considerably with the weather.
Are air quality levels in Tachikawa based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
