Worst air pollution Shūnan, today and tomorrow

Today (16 July): Air quality in Shūnan is poor. AQI and O3 are poor; PM2.5, PM10, NO2, SO2, CO, HCHO, and PM1 are good. Pollution peaks around 3:00 PM (O3: 71.2/100).
Tomorrow (17 July 2026): Air quality in Shūnan is fair. AQI improves to fair; O3 decreases to fair; all other pollutants stay as today. Pollution peaks around 4:00 PM (O3: 29.8/100). Airmine updates local air quality forecasts four times daily.

Shūnan's air quality reflects the Yamaguchi Prefecture Seto Inland Sea coastal position adjacent to the Tokuyama Soda chemical complex, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the chemical, petroleum refining, and industrial corridor generating elevated industrial SO₂ and PM2.5. Consistent Seto Inland Sea maritime breezes provide coastal ventilation, while the chemical complex's industrial scale represents Shunan's most distinctive local air quality contribution and the coastal position generally maintains moderate readings outside direct industrial plume events throughout most of the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is air quality bad in Shūnan right now?

On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Shūnan is poor. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 71.2/100. Pollution peaks around 3:00 PM (O3: 71.2/100).

Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Shūnan?

On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Shūnan will be better than today, with AQI forecast at fair at 29.8/100. Pollution peaks around 4:00 PM (O3: 29.8/100).

When is air pollution at its worst in Shūnan?

Shūnan usually sees its poorest air quality when vehicle traffic and heavy industrial and chemical processing coincide with periods when dry, windy weather picks up. Strong seasonal winds can lift dust from the surrounding dry terrain and push particulate levels sharply higher. Maritime airflow normally ventilates the area well, though calmer spells let levels rise.

Are air quality levels in Shūnan based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
