Miki in Hyogo reflects the Hyogo Prefecture Kato River valley position adjacent to the Rokko Mountain base, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the hardware and cutting tools manufacturing — Miki being Japan's hardware manufacturing capital — and residential corridor contributing distinctive metal dust emissions alongside primary vehicle sources. The surrounding Harima hills create topographic variation, while the hardware manufacturing operations' distinctive metal particulate represent Miki's most locally unique industrial air quality contribution throughout most of the year.

Are air quality levels in Miki based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
