Kisarazu's air quality reflects the Chiba Prefecture Tokyo Bay coastal position adjacent to the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line tunnel terminus, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the logistics, chemical, and manufacturing corridor contributing local sources. Tokyo Bay's industrial waterfront creates background industrial PM2.5, while the Aqua-Line's concentrated vehicle tunnel emissions represent the most distinctive local emission source and Kisarazu generally maintains moderate to elevated Tokyo Bay eastern industrial corridor readings throughout most of the year.

When is air pollution at its worst in Kisarazu?
Kisarazu usually sees its poorest air quality when traffic on the surrounding roads, heavy industry such as steel, cement, or petrochemical processing, and manufacturing and food processing coincide with periods when dry, windy weather picks up. Strong seasonal winds can lift dust from the surrounding dry terrain and push particulate levels sharply higher. Sea breezes typically keep conditions in check, except during still weather.
Are air quality levels in Kisarazu based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
