Kameoka's air quality reflects the Kyoto Prefecture Kameoka Basin's near-complete topographic enclosure between the Tamba and Tanba highlands at 100 metres, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the agricultural, industrial, and residential corridor contributing local sources. The basin's near-complete mountain enclosure creates severe morning fog and temperature inversions, while the Oi River valley provides limited ventilation and Kameoka generally maintains moderate to elevated Kyoto Prefecture enclosed basin readings throughout most of the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is air quality bad in Kameoka right now?

On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Kameoka is fair. NO2 is the main pollutant at 25.4/100. Pollution peaks around 12:00 PM (O3: 58.2/100).

Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Kameoka?

On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Kameoka will be similar to today, with NO2 forecast at fair at 24.4/100. Pollution peaks around 3:00 PM (O3: 52.2/100).

When is air pollution at its worst in Kameoka?

The biggest local contributors to pollution in Kameoka are road traffic as well as agricultural burning, particularly once temperature inversions set in over the valley. Topographic enclosure in the valley lets pollution accumulate rather than clear out. Dust carried on these winds adds substantially to particulate levels.

Are air quality levels in Kameoka based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
