Higashi-ōsaka's air quality reflects the Osaka metropolitan area's eastern industrial corridor adjacent to the Ikoma Mountain base, with vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways and the manufacturing, metals, and technology corridor contributing elevated industrial PM2.5. Osaka Bay breezes provide limited maritime ventilation from the west, while the Ikoma Mountain creates topographic enclosure to the east and the extraordinary Osaka metropolitan industrial background maintains moderate to elevated Osaka eastern industrial corridor readings throughout most of the year.

Strong seasonal winds can lift dust from the surrounding dry terrain and push particulate levels sharply higher. Sea breezes typically keep conditions in check, except during still weather.
Are air quality levels in Higashi-ōsaka based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
