Worst air pollution Higashi-Hiroshima, today and tomorrow

Today (16 July): Air quality in Higashi-Hiroshima is fair. NO2 is fair; AQI and O3 are medium; PM2.5, PM10, SO2, CO, HCHO, and PM1 are good. Pollution peaks around 4:00 PM (O3: 57.5/100).
Tomorrow (17 July 2026): Air quality in Higashi-Hiroshima is poor. AQI worsens to poor; O3 increases to poor; all other pollutants stay as today. Pollution peaks around 1:00 PM (O3: 70.2/100). Airmine updates local air quality forecasts four times daily.

Higashi-Hiroshima's air quality reflects the Hiroshima Prefecture Saijo Basin's partial mountain enclosure at 250 metres, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the Hiroshima University campus, sake brewing — Saijo being one of Japan's sake capitals — and manufacturing corridor contributing distinctive organic fermentation aerosols alongside primary vehicle sources. The surrounding mountains create topographic variation, while the sake brewing's distinctive yeast emissions represent the most locally unique air quality characteristic and the basin's topography creates winter inversion episodes throughout the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is air quality bad in Higashi-Hiroshima right now?

On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Higashi-Hiroshima is fair. NO2 is the main pollutant at 38.0/100. Pollution peaks around 4:00 PM (O3: 57.5/100).

Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Higashi-Hiroshima?

On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Higashi-Hiroshima will be worse than today, with AQI forecast at poor at 70.2/100. Pollution peaks around 1:00 PM (O3: 70.2/100).

When is air pollution at its worst in Higashi-Hiroshima?

Air quality in Higashi-Hiroshima tends to be worse when road traffic along with light manufacturing build up and calm, stagnant conditions settle in the surrounding valley. Topographic enclosure in the valley lets pollution accumulate rather than clear out. The effect is strongest during the colder months, when inversions set in most often.

Are air quality levels in Higashi-Hiroshima based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
