Gifu's air quality reflects the Nobi Plain's Nagara River position adjacent to Nagoya, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the textile, manufacturing, and Gifu Castle tourism corridor contributing local sources. The flat Nobi Plain allows reasonable dispersal, while summer photochemical ozone from the vast Chukyo metropolitan corridor is the primary warm-season concern and Gifu generally maintains moderate to elevated Nagoya metropolitan northern corridor readings throughout most of the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is air quality bad in Gifu right now?

On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Gifu is fair. NO2 is the main pollutant at 24.9/100. Pollution peaks around 11:00 AM (O3: 56.7/100).

Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Gifu?

When is air pollution at its worst in Gifu?

Gifu usually sees its poorest air quality when vehicle traffic, heavy industry such as steel, cement, or petrochemical processing, as well as manufacturing and food processing coincide with periods when warm, sunny weather takes hold. Strong sunlight reacting with local emissions drives up ground-level ozone. This is far less of an issue outside the warmer months.

Are air quality levels in Gifu based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
