Tangerang's air quality reflects western Jakarta's most industrialised suburban corridor adjacent to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, with the airport's concentrated aviation operations and vehicle traffic on the Jakarta-Merak Tollway and the surrounding industrial estates generating elevated NOₓ and industrial PM2.5. The flat Banten coastal plain allows limited dispersal, while the industrial estate concentration and the airport's flight operations make Tangerang among the Jabodetabek area's more aviation and industrial-influenced urban environments throughout most of the year.
