Depok's air quality reflects the Jakarta southern suburban corridor on the elevated Bogor-Depok volcanic plateau at 50 to 100 metres, with vehicle traffic on the TB Simatupang and surrounding mixed residential and commercial development contributing local sources. The slightly elevated position provides marginally better dispersal than the flat Jakarta coastal plain, while the consistent Java Sea and Indian Ocean monsoon breezes provide seasonal ventilation and the southern corridor's residential character generally maintains somewhat better conditions than the northern industrial Jakarta districts.
