Bekasi's air quality reflects West Java's most densely industrialised corridor east of Jakarta, with vehicle traffic on the Jakarta-Cikampek Tollway and the surrounding Bekasi industrial estate's manufacturing, chemicals, and logistics operations generating elevated PM2.5 and NOₓ. The flat West Java coastal plain allows limited dispersal, while the industrial estate concentration and the extraordinary vehicle density from Jakarta commuter traffic maintain Bekasi among the Jabodetabek metropolitan area's more challenging industrial suburban environments throughout most of the year.
