Batam Centre's air quality reflects the Riau Islands Batam Industrial Island position adjacent to Singapore on the Malacca Strait, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the extraordinary industrial estate manufacturing and free trade zone operations contributing elevated PM2.5. The Malacca Strait provides maritime ventilation, while transboundary haze from Indonesian peatland fires represents the primary severe seasonal concern and Batam generally maintains moderate conditions outside haze episodes throughout most of the year.
