Hyderabad's air quality reflects the Deccan Plateau's elevated granite basin at 536 metres surrounded by the Nallamala and Eastern Ghats ranges, with vehicle traffic on the Outer Ring Road and surrounding pharmaceutical, IT campus, and construction corridor contributing elevated PM10. The elevated plateau position aids dispersal on most days, while vehicle and construction dust have grown dramatically alongside the technology boom and Hyderabad generally maintains moderate to elevated South Indian metropolitan readings throughout most of the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is air quality bad in Hyderābād right now?

On 9 August 2026, overall air quality in Hyderābād is fair. SO2 is the main pollutant at 24.3/100. Pollution peaks around 9:30 PM (NO2: 44.4/100).

Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Hyderābād?

On 10 August 2026, air quality conditions in Hyderābād will be similar to today, with O3 forecast at fair at 24.1/100. Pollution peaks around 7:30 PM (NO2: 41.6/100).

When is air pollution at its worst in Hyderābād?

Air quality in Hyderābād tends to be worse when traffic emissions and ongoing construction work build up and dry, windy weather picks up. Dust carried on these winds adds substantially to particulate levels. These episodes tend to cluster in spring and autumn.

Are air quality levels in Hyderābād based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.

Why doesn’t the forecast always reflect wildfire impacts?

Airmine’s forecast uses CAMS (Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service) as its background atmospheric model. While CAMS includes wildfire emissions, these are derived from satellite observations and are not available in real time. During rapidly evolving wildfire events, there may therefore be a delay before increased emissions are incorporated into the model. As a result, the forecast may temporarily underestimate PM₂.₅ and other pollutants associated with wildfire smoke.

During rapidly evolving wildfire events, CAMS may lag by approximately 1–2 days before increased wildfire emissions are fully represented, which can lead to temporary underestimation of PM₂.₅ concentrations in Airmine’s forecast.
