Tbilisi's air quality reflects the Kura River valley's partial topographic enclosure between the Caucasus and Trialeti ranges at 490 metres, with vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways and the ageing vehicle fleet, construction, and industrial corridor generating elevated PM2.5. The valley's topographic enclosure creates concentration under winter inversions, while the Caucasian highland backdrop provides cleaner southerly airflows on most days and Tbilisi generally maintains moderate to elevated Caucasian capital city readings throughout most of the year.
