The Rhône valley provides ventilation on northerly Mistral wind days, while the surrounding Vercors plateau to the west and the Alpine foothills to the east create topographic variation and calm anticyclonic conditions allow ozone to accumulate from vehicle and agricultural emissions throughout the year.
