Osijek's air quality reflects the flat Slavonian Drava-Drava river plain in eastern Croatia, with vehicle traffic on the A5 motorway and surrounding agricultural processing and manufacturing industry contributing local sources. Winter residential wood and coal burning generates elevated PM2.5, while the flat Pannonian plain generally allows reasonable wind dispersal on most days and temperature inversions in the Drava valley concentrate emissions seasonally.
