Zhuzhou's air quality reflects the Hunan Xiang River valley's industrial corridor south of Changsha, with vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways and the locomotive manufacturing, chemical, and zinc-lead smelting corridor generating elevated heavy metal PM2.5. The Xiang valley's topographic variation creates concentration under inversions, while the locomotive manufacturing and nonferrous smelting represent Zhuzhou's most distinctive industrial air quality sources and the regional Hunan industrial background maintains moderate to elevated central Hunan readings throughout the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is air quality bad in Zhuzhou right now?

On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Zhuzhou is poor. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 62.7/100. Pollution peaks around 4:00 PM (O3: 62.7/100).

Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Zhuzhou?

On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Zhuzhou will be similar to today, with AQI forecast at poor at 61.1/100. Pollution peaks around 4:00 PM (O3: 61.1/100).

When is air pollution at its worst in Zhuzhou?

In Zhuzhou, traffic on the surrounding roads, petrochemical and refining operations, and textile and manufacturing operations are the main local sources, with conditions worsening when the surrounding valley traps air close to the ground. The bowl-like terrain here limits how quickly pollutants can escape. These wind events can carry dust in from the surrounding arid landscape.

Are air quality levels in Zhuzhou based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
