Zhuanghe's air quality reflects the Liaoning southeastern Yellow Sea coastal position adjacent to Dalian's northern corridor, with vehicle traffic and the manufacturing and agricultural corridor contributing local sources. Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea breezes provide coastal ventilation, while winter residential coal heating compounds local emissions and Zhuanghe generally maintains moderate Liaoning southeastern coastal corridor readings throughout most of the year.

When is air pollution at its worst in Zhuanghe?
In Zhuanghe, vehicle traffic, manufacturing activity, as well as agricultural burning are the main local sources, with conditions worsening when maritime winds die down. Onshore breezes usually help clear the air, but pollution can build up when winds are light. Fuel burned for winter heating adds an extra layer of particulates on top of other sources.
Are air quality levels in Zhuanghe based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
