Zhongxiang's air quality reflects the flat Hubei Han River valley plain, with vehicle traffic and the phosphate mining, chemical, and agricultural corridor contributing local sources. The Han River valley concentrates emissions under winter inversions and the broader Wuhan metropolitan regional background influences the corridor, generally maintaining moderate Hubei central corridor readings throughout most of the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is air quality bad in Zhongxiang right now?

On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Zhongxiang is poor. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 61.3/100. Pollution peaks around 11:00 AM (O3: 61.3/100).

Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Zhongxiang?

When is air pollution at its worst in Zhongxiang?

Zhongxiang usually sees its poorest air quality when road traffic, petrochemical and refining operations, along with quarrying activity coincide with periods when calm, stagnant conditions settle in the surrounding valley. Topographic enclosure in the valley lets pollution accumulate rather than clear out. This is most pronounced in winter, when inversions are more frequent.

Are air quality levels in Zhongxiang based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
