Yuncheng's air quality reflects the Shanxi Yuncheng Basin's enclosed flat salt lake plain at 365 metres, with vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways and the salt mining, magnesium, and chemical corridor generating elevated industrial emissions. The surrounding Zhongtiao Mountains create topographic enclosure, while winter residential coal and industrial heating under persistent inversions maintain Yuncheng among Shanxi's more distinctively salt lake industrial-influenced metropolitan environments throughout the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is air quality bad in Yuncheng right now?

On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Yuncheng is very poor. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 85.7/100. Pollution peaks around 2:00 AM (NO2: 85.7/100).

When is air pollution at its worst in Yuncheng?

Pollution in Yuncheng typically rises when traffic emissions, steel, cement, and chemical production, together with mining operations combine, especially once the surrounding valley traps air close to the ground. The surrounding valley terrain holds pollutants near the surface rather than letting them disperse. Dust carried on these winds adds substantially to particulate levels.

Are air quality levels in Yuncheng based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
