Xinyang's air quality reflects the flat Huaihe River plain's southern Henan position at the Dabie Mountain northern foothills, with vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways and the agricultural processing, tea farming, and manufacturing corridor contributing local sources. Winter residential coal and biomass burning generates elevated PM2.5 under frequent inversions, while the flat terrain allows reasonable summer dispersal and the Dabie Mountain backdrop provides limited topographic variation throughout the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is air quality bad in Xinyang right now?

On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Xinyang is very poor. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 100/100. Pollution peaks around 5:00 AM (NO2: 100/100).

Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Xinyang?

On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Xinyang will be similar to today, with AQI forecast at very poor at 92.8/100. Pollution peaks around 8:00 PM (NO2: 92.8/100).

When is air pollution at its worst in Xinyang?

The biggest local contributors to pollution in Xinyang are vehicle traffic, manufacturing activity, along with agricultural activity, particularly once temperatures drop in winter. Fuel burned for winter heating adds an extra layer of particulates on top of other sources. This is far less of a factor once the heating season ends.

Are air quality levels in Xinyang based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
