Xinyang's air quality reflects the flat Huaihe River plain's southern Henan position at the Dabie Mountain northern foothills, with vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways and the agricultural processing, tea farming, and manufacturing corridor contributing local sources. Winter residential coal and biomass burning generates elevated PM2.5 under frequent inversions, while the flat terrain allows reasonable summer dispersal and the Dabie Mountain backdrop provides limited topographic variation throughout the year.
