Wuxi's air quality reflects the flat Yangtze delta plain's Jiangsu position adjacent to Taihu Lake, with vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways and the semiconductor, solar energy, and manufacturing corridor contributing local sources. Taihu Lake breezes provide limited natural ventilation, while winter anticyclonic inversions concentrate industrial and heating emissions and Wuxi generally maintains moderate to elevated Yangtze Delta technology industrial corridor readings throughout most of the year.

When is air pollution at its worst in Wuxi?
Air quality in Wuxi tends to be worse when vehicle traffic as well as light manufacturing build up and dry spells bring strong winds. Dust carried on these winds adds substantially to particulate levels. Residential heating through the colder months is a major seasonal source of particulates.
Are air quality levels in Wuxi based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
