Tongliao's air quality reflects the Inner Mongolia eastern Horqin Sandy Land's flat plain position, with vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways and the coal power, chemical, and agricultural corridor contributing local sources. Windblown sand from the Horqin Desert generates elevated PM10 during spring sand storms, while winter coal power and residential coal heating under anticyclonic inversions compound dust and industrial emissions and Tongliao generally maintains moderate to elevated Inner Mongolian eastern corridor readings throughout the year.
