Worst air pollution Sanmenxia, today and tomorrow
Today (16 July): Air quality in Sanmenxia is very poor. AQI and NO2 are very poor; O3 is poor; PM2.5, SO2, and PM1 are fair; PM10 is medium; CO and HCHO are good. Pollution peaks around 12:00 AM (NO2: 81.9/100).
Tomorrow (17 July 2026): Air quality in Sanmenxia is poor. AQI improves to poor; PM10 decreases to good; NO2 decreases to poor; SO2 decreases to good; all other pollutants stay as today. Pollution peaks around 3:00 PM (O3: 67.0/100). Airmine updates local air quality forecasts four times daily.

Sanmenxia's air quality reflects the Henan Wei River and Yellow River confluence's partial topographic enclosure between the Xiaoqin and Funiu mountains at 410 metres, with vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways and the aluminium smelting, coal power, and agricultural corridor generating elevated industrial PM2.5. The valley's topographic enclosure concentrates emissions under winter inversions, while the aluminium smelting operations represent Sanmenxia's most distinctive industrial air quality contribution throughout most of the year.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is air quality bad in Sanmenxia right now?
On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Sanmenxia is very poor. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 81.9/100. Pollution peaks around 12:00 AM (NO2: 81.9/100).
Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Sanmenxia?
On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Sanmenxia will be better than today, with AQI forecast at poor at 67.0/100. Pollution peaks around 3:00 PM (O3: 67.0/100).
When is air pollution at its worst in Sanmenxia?
The biggest local contributors to pollution in Sanmenxia are traffic on the surrounding roads together with agricultural burning, particularly once the surrounding valley traps air close to the ground. The surrounding valley terrain holds pollutants near the surface rather than letting them disperse. Strong seasonal winds can lift dust from the surrounding dry terrain and push particulate levels sharply higher.
Are air quality levels in Sanmenxia based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
