Quzhou's air quality reflects the Zhejiang western Qu River valley's partial enclosure between the Xianxia and Huainiaoling mountain ranges, with vehicle traffic on surrounding roads and the chemical — Quzhou hosting one of China's largest chemical industrial zones — and manufacturing corridor generating elevated industrial PM2.5 and VOCs. The valley's topographic enclosure creates concentration under inversions, while the chemical industrial scale represents Quzhou's most distinctive local air quality contribution throughout most of the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is air quality bad in Quzhou right now?

On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Quzhou is fair. NO2 is the main pollutant at 37.0/100. Pollution peaks around 2:00 PM (O3: 45.6/100).

Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Quzhou?

On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Quzhou will be similar to today, with NO2 forecast at fair at 37.9/100. Pollution peaks around 3:00 PM (O3: 53.4/100).

When is air pollution at its worst in Quzhou?

Air quality in Quzhou tends to be worse when road traffic, petrochemical and refining operations, along with manufacturing and food processing build up and calm, stagnant conditions settle in the surrounding valley. Topographic enclosure in the valley lets pollution accumulate rather than clear out. Strong seasonal winds can lift dust from the surrounding dry terrain and push particulate levels sharply higher.

Are air quality levels in Quzhou based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
