Worst air pollution Ma’anshan, today and tomorrow

Today (16 July): Air quality in Ma’anshan is poor. AQI and O3 are poor; PM2.5, HCHO, and PM1 are fair; NO2 is medium; PM10, SO2, and CO are good. Pollution peaks around 12:00 PM (O3: 71.9/100).
Tomorrow (17 July 2026): Air quality in Ma’anshan is poor. All pollutants stay as today. Pollution peaks around 12:00 PM (O3: 69.3/100). Airmine updates local air quality forecasts four times daily.

Ma'anshan's air quality reflects the flat Anhui Yangtze River valley's industrial position adjacent to Nanjing, with vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways and the Maanshan Iron and Steel — one of China's major steel bases — and chemical corridor generating elevated industrial SO₂ and PM2.5. The Yangtze River provides limited waterway ventilation, while winter anticyclonic inversions concentrate steel industrial and heating emissions and Ma'anshan maintains Anhui's most distinctively steel manufacturing-defined urban air quality environment throughout the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is air quality bad in Ma’anshan right now?

On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Ma’anshan is poor. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 71.9/100. Pollution peaks around 12:00 PM (O3: 71.9/100).

Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Ma’anshan?

On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Ma’anshan will be similar to today, with AQI forecast at poor at 69.3/100. Pollution peaks around 12:00 PM (O3: 69.3/100).

When is air pollution at its worst in Ma’anshan?

In Ma’anshan, vehicle traffic, heavy industrial and chemical processing, together with manufacturing and food processing are the main local sources, with conditions worsening when temperature inversions set in over the valley. The surrounding valley terrain holds pollutants near the surface rather than letting them disperse. These wind events can carry dust in from the surrounding arid landscape.

Are air quality levels in Ma’anshan based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
