Lu'an's air quality reflects the flat Jianghuai Plain's western Anhui position at the Dabie Mountain northern foothills, with vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways and the coal mining, agricultural processing, and manufacturing corridor contributing local sources. Winter residential coal and biomass burning generates elevated PM2.5 under frequent inversions, while the flat terrain allows reasonable summer dispersal and the regional Anhui industrial background consistently elevates winter readings throughout the year.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is air quality bad in Lu’an right now?
On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Lu’an is fair. PM1 is the main pollutant at 23.1/100. Pollution peaks around 3:00 PM (O3: 55.5/100).
Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Lu’an?
On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Lu’an will be worse than today, with AQI forecast at poor at 60.0/100. Pollution peaks around 3:00 PM (O3: 60.0/100).
When is air pollution at its worst in Lu’an?
Pollution in Lu’an typically rises when traffic emissions, quarrying activity, along with manufacturing and food processing combine, especially once windblown dust events occur. These wind events can carry dust in from the surrounding arid landscape. Fuel burned for winter heating adds an extra layer of particulates on top of other sources.
Are air quality levels in Lu’an based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
