Lishui's air quality benefits from the Zhejiang western Oujiang River valley's partial forest enclosure in the Jingning mountains, with vehicle traffic on surrounding expressways and the agricultural, eco-tourism, and light manufacturing corridor contributing modest local sources. The surrounding Zhongjian Mountains provide exceptional forest filtration, while the valley's topographic variation generally maintains Lishui among Zhejiang's cleaner inland provincial cities throughout most of the year.

Local weather patterns add further variation on top of these sources. Background emissions and local weather both play a role in day-to-day changes.

Are air quality levels in Lishui based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere.
